tfal&chi is a movement dedicated to sharing top quality, practical and relevant information and advice to help you lead a healthier lifestyle. As adults starting our 5th decade, we embrace the importance of a healthy lifestyle on a myriad of health outcomes, morbidity and mortality. The ongoing covid-19 pandemic intensely highlights the direct impact of co-morbidities such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity, heart disease, smoking and lung disease on severity of illness and death from covid-19.
As Africans in the diaspora we have seen the impact of poor health on morbidity and life expectancy among our peers and others. We understand the challenges of balancing work, raising children and caring for family in the US and abroad. Many times preventive health, regular exercise and wellness initiatives are not prioritized often leading to symptom-driven engagement with health care. The additional challenge of changing a life long carbohydrate-heavy way of eating remains an issue for most.

We believe that when people understand the importance of having the “5” at goal they are empowered to engage in prevention initiatives and discussions with their health care providers.
Healthier diets and exercise will impact all 5 of these targets in addition to pleiotropic effects on mental health, other physical illnesses, cancer risk and on a cellular level- inflammation.
