After nine years of marriage, Toyin M. Falusi, MD, a specialist in infectious diseases, found herself divorced and raising two young children. It was a trying, stressful time, but rather than accept the hackneyed stereotype of the miserable and overwrought single mom, Falusi chose to embrace her new existence.

Twelve years later, she’s still leading a happy, successful life. In The Decade After: Surviving Thriving after Divorce, she shares what she’s learned along the way.

Life does not end after divorce, nor does it have to plunge into stress, loneliness, and despair. Take it from Falusi—twelve years later, she’s still going strong. While she remains willing to entertain the possibility of a new serious relationship, she’s quite happy as she is—self-reliant, successful, and fulfilled!

This book empowers women of all ages to celebrate their awesomeness and to grow daily.

Book Reviews

If you are going through a divorce, or know someone who is, please buy and read this book. I love how the author took us on her own divorce journey, without an ounce of bitterness in her writing. She cleverly intertwined her divorce journey with tips/gems/advice for women going through the same and also used comparisons from her experience with medical cases. Such creative, vivid, and clever writing. Having gone through a divorce myself, I could relate to all that she wrote, but I certainly still picked up a lot of life lessons and found myself having a lot of ha-ha moments. Thank you so much, Toyin, for writing such a much-needed book to empower women during one of the most stressful life events.

My only complaint is that I wish it had been published sooner! The author does a wonderful job reframing some of the hardest parts about divorce and turning them into strengths. The text is genuine and easy to read, which allows you to trust the tips and easily reference them. The author uses examples from her career in medicine which is both helpful and keeps the book interesting. I particularly appreciated chapters 4 and 5 about understanding other’s reactions to your divorce, staying true to yourself, and personal growth. I have recommended this book to both friends who have experienced divorce and friends who are in the process and terrified of being a single mother. Great purchase!! Plus, the price is hard to beat!!
